Marvel to Release ‘Captain America’ Sequel in 2014

While superhero fans are gearing up for the exciting debut of The Avengers in theaters this May, Marvel recently announced a new film that fans will be able to look forward to in 2014. Last summer’s hit film Captain America: The First Avenger will be getting a sequel, set to premiere in theaters on April 4, 2014.

The sequel, which will once again star Chris Evans as Captain America, will pick up where The Avengers leaves off, with Captain America continuing his work with Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson) and S.H.I.E.L.D. while he “struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.” The announcement of this sequel comes as little surprise, as Evans reportedly signed on for at least three Captain America films in addition to The Avengers, and the first Captain America film had a strong showing at the box office, earning $368.6 million worldwide.

The Captain America sequel won’t be the first sequel to hit theaters following The Avengers, however, as Thor 2 is currently expected for release on November 15, 2013 and Iron Man 3 will debut on May 3, 2013. Another Marvel film, which has yet to be announced, will debut just a month after Captain America on May 16, 2014.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new sequel. The Avengers, which heavily features Captain America, will debut in theaters on May 4.
