Disney Interactive Losses Improve Due to Social Games

Disney Interactive Media announced their revenues have increased by 13% from the previous quarter, crediting the increased focus on social games and the cheaper cost of developing console games for the improvement. However, the company still recorded a $70 million loss in the second quarter, albeit a much “cheaper” loss than the $115 million they lost in the first quarter.
Disney released a press release detailing their second quarter earnings, and said:

10 Employees Cut from Disney Interactive

Disney Interactive Media Group laid off ten employees earlier this week, according to a source who is familiar with the situation but was not authorized to speak publicly about the job cuts.
According to this source, the lay offs were in the company’s games publishing team. In a statement, Disney Interactive said:
Disney Interactive continually evaluates its resources to align with the division’s goals and business opportunities. As part of that effort, Disney Interactive made targeted layoffs today.

‘Brave: The Video Game’ Coming this Summer

Disney Interactive Media Group has announced that Brave: The Video Game will be coming to consoles this year, and is currently in development for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii, the Nintendo DS and the PC/Mac.
The video game takes inspiration directly from the film, and allows players to take on the role of Merida as she battles her way through the rugged landscape of Scotland. Marvel: Avengers Alliance Arrives on Facebook

Marvel Entertainment, in collaboration with the Disney Interactive Media Group, have just announced the first social game based on characters from the Marvel universe.
Marvel: Avengers Alliance was developed by Disney-owned Playdom, and is now live on Facebook. The game brings some of the most iconic Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains to life via a turn-based tactical combat experience unlike any other social games available today.

Disney’s Playdom Launches Popular Facebook Game on iPad

Today, Disney’s Playdom will be launching Gardens of Time, their popular Facebook application, on the iPad.
This marks a huge move for Playdom, as Gardens of Time is the most successful Facebook game created by the company. Since its launch in April, the game has taken players by storm – currently, there are 9.1 million monthly active users and 2.1 million daily active users.

The Walt Disney Co. has announced the acquisition of Babble Media, Inc., an online parenting platform that features more than 200 influential mom bloggers. Iger Discusses the New Disney.com and Future of Digital Entertainment

In a discussion yesterday at the All Things Digital conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, Disney CEO Robert Iger explained the upcoming retooling of the Disney.com website.
