Animal Kingdom’s Primeval Whirl Ride to Remain Closed Through the Summer

Guests traveling to Walt Disney World this summer may be disappointed to learn that one of the resort’s roller coasters will remain closed throughout the busy summer season.
Primeval Whirl, a wild mouse-style roller coaster, which features cars that spin as they move along the ride’s tracks, has been closed for maintenance since January, and was supposed to reopen in April.  However, following the death of a park employee, Russell Roscoe, who sustained a fatal head injury while working on the ride, the park decided to push back the opening date …

‘Modern Family’ Jesse Tyler Ferguson Drops in on Walt Disney World

A star of one of TV’s hottest sitcoms, “Modern Family,” Jesse Tyler Ferguson entertains millions as Mitchell on the show.  But it was Ferguson’s turn to be entertained this week, as he vacationed at Walt Disney World.  Photographers were on hand to capture this fun moment, as Ferguson rode “Toy Story Mania!” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with Justin Mikita.  Sources say that he and Mikita also enjoyed the sites and rides of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Disney Releases Statement Regarding Death of Cast Member at Animal Kingdom

Previously, we told you that Russell Sherry Roscoe, 52, of Webster, Florida, died early Monday of injuries he sustained while working on the Primeval Whirl ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.  Roscoe was hit by a moving ride vehicle, and suffered what the Orlando Sentinel described as “massive  head injuries.”
Yesterday, Disney released the following statement:

Star Sighting:  ‘Survivors’ Jenna Morasca and Ethan Zohn Embark Upon Wild Africa Trek

Last month, we shared with you the heart warming, inspirational story of Jenna Morasca’s and Ethan Zohn’s recent run in the Disney Princess Half Marathon.  The stars of the reality TV series “Survivor” (she won “Survivor Amazon,” and he topped “Survivor Africa”) ran the event together in celebration of Zohn’s recent victory over cancer.  But today, we’re getting a first hand look at some of the fun the duo had after they wrapped up the race.

Disney Employee Injured at Animal Kingdom Dies

A Walt Disney World employee who was injured Sunday afternoon while working on a ride at the resort’s Animal Kingdom park has died.
According to WESH News, the worker, identified as Russell Sherry Rosco, sustained injuries while working on Primeval Whirl, a ride located in the Dinoland U.S.A. portion of the park.  WESH stated on air during this morning’s broadcast that Mr. Rosco had sustained head injuries.  Primeval Whirl is currently closed to guests while it undergoes refurbishment.
Mr. Rosco was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center following the injury.  Disney stated at the time …

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Kicks Off ‘Wild Africa Trek’ Experience this Weekend

Get ready to see Disney’s Animal Kingdom like you’ve never seen it before!
This weekend, Disney will unveil its much-anticipated Wild Africa Trek adventures.  The tours, which are available by reservation only, will operate several times each day, but will keep groups to twelve or less to ensure one-on-one attention from guides.  During the three hour tour, guests will have unprecedented access to the animals in the Pangani Forest, interacting with wildlife from special observation decks, and teetering above crocodiles and hippos on rope bridges situated just above the river.

Dr. Jane Goodall to Host VIP Safari Weekend Fundraiser at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Jane Goodall, noted primatologist and conservationist.  And in February, Goodall returns to Disney for a very special weekend fundraising event.
Goodall will host Walt Disney World Safari VIP Weekend, which will take place February 18-21.  And while reservations for the weekend do not come cheap – price per adult is $8500, and price for a child to attend is $7500 – the event is actually a fundraiser for the Jane Goodall Institute, which “empowers people to make a difference for all living things.”  The weekend …

Speculation Grows That Australia Will Soon Come to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The Land Down Under may be getting much, much closer to Central Florida.
WESH 2 News in Orlando is reporting that Walt Disney World may be expanding yet another one of its theme parks – Animal Kingdom – and that the new land will be themed after the continent of Australia. 
While Disney has not confirmed the rumors, the expansion would certainly complement the current continents represented at Animal Kingdom, Africa and Asia, without competing with any of the World Showcase offerings.
