Privacy at Risk: Congress Requires Disney to Answer Questions About My Magic+

Disney landed squarely in the hot seat yesterday, as the U.S. Congress demanded that the company answer questions regarding magic bands that guests will use in conjunction with My Magic+.
In a letter addressed to CEO Robert Iger, Edward Markey, (D- Mass) co-chairman of the Congressional Bi-Partisan Privacy Caucus, required that Disney provide information about the new bracelets, which implement RFID technology, no later than February 14.  Congressman Markey’s chief concerns centered around the privacy of guests and how information harvested from use of the bracelets would be put to use — …

J.J. Abrams Signed to Direct Next ‘Star Wars’ Installment

First reported by The Wrap and later confirmed by Entertainment Weekly, it’s official: J.J. Abrams has signed on to direct the next installment of Star Wars that’s coming to the silver screen.
Abrams’ respect and affinity for the Star Wars franchise was apparent during EW’s conversation in November – during which he denied that he had plans to direct future Star Wars films:

Ron Howard May Direct Disney’s ‘The Graveyard Book’

Last August, we told you that Disney had pulled the plug on their adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. Originally, Henry Selick was slated to direct the stop-motion film based on the book about Nobody Owens, who is raised by ghosts after his family is murdered.
Now, sources are reporting that Disney plans to bring back their ideas for The Graveyard Book, with Ron Howard at the helm. According to media reports, the studio has re-configured the film to be a live-action adaptation, and are currently in negotiations with Howard to direct.

Disney Magic Earns Top Honors in Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers Choice Awards

The votes were tallied for Conde Nast Traveler’s 2013 reader’s poll for Top Cruise Ships in the World, and the Disney Magic earned top honors!
Disney Cruise Line’s oldest ship, the Disney Magic, took the number one spot in the polls. Meanwhile, the Disney Wonder placed at number two, the Disney Dream at number three and the Disney Fantasy ranked in 8th place.

A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas Coming to Magic Kingdom

A new interactive quest will be coming to Magic Kingdom park this year!
The new experience, A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas, will debut at Adventureland. Guests will be given a map and a magical pirate talisman that will enable them to complete several pirate raids throughout the park. Throughout the interactive experience, guests will be looking for Treasures of the Seven Seas while fighting off pirate enemies – including Captain Barbossa and The Royal Navy.

EasyJet Signs Deal with Disney

EasyJet and Disney have reached an agreement that will allow the company to sell Disneyland Paris tickets on its website, sources have reported. In return, Disneyland Paris will be offering EasyJet flights on their website.
The new pan-European deal will cover a variety of airfare packages to Paris Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports from over 50 European cities, including Germany, Hungary, Denmark, Romania, Portugal, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, France, the UK and the Czech Republic.

Hong Kong Disneyland to Open Mystic Point

Following the introduction of Grizzly Gulch and Toy Story Land, Hong Kong Disneyland is hard at work on the next component of their $3.6 billion expansion: Mystic Point.
According to Disney, Mystic Point will be an area where guests can see “mysterious forces and supernatural events in the heart of a dense, uncharted rain forest.” One of the star attractions of this new section of the park will be Mystic Manor, a haunted house-themed ride where visitors will be able to view Lord Henry Mystic’s artefacts he has collected on his …

Disney and OPI Launch ‘Wizard of Oz’ Nail Lacquer Collection

Popular nail polish brand OPI have announced the launch of an upcoming collection based on Disney’s flick Oz The Great and Powerful. The new collection will feature six shades inspired by the film as well as an additional “Liquid Sand” polish, which is described as a “textured, matte finish infused with reflective sparkle.”
