Sneak Peek at New California Grill Menu at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Disney’s California Grill will be closing on February 1 for renovations, and our friends at the Disney Food Blog have given us a sneak peek at some of the new menu items diners can expect to see when the restaurant reopens late summer.
Despite the former sushi chef Yoshie Cabral’s retirement, sushi will still remain a large focus of the updated menu. Disney Sponsored 2013 Eagle Award Ceremony for Local Business Leaders

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts sponsored the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida’s 2013 Eagle Award Ceremony as part of their commitment to diversity and local business.
This year, the annual event was held at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Several prominent African America business leaders and entrepreneurs were recognized for their achievements in their field.

Disney Lays Off 50 Workers from Video Games Unit

On the same day Disney closed Epic Mickey developer Junction Point, the company also laid off approximately 50 workers from its video game division. The layoffs were separate from those who lost their jobs in the Junction Point closure.
This marks the latest in a series of layoffs for Disney Interactive. In 2011, the games division cut more than 200 employees while in 2012, ten additional workers were laid off.
Disney Interactive has significantly changed their focus, working on the upcoming Infinity game and additional mobile and social titles. Disney Interactive Co-President John Pleasants said:

Disney’s ‘1952’ Movie Changes to ‘Tomorrowland’

Disney’s upcoming flick 1952 has received a name change: Tomorrowland. But will the film tie-in to the Disney Parks area of the same name?
The upcoming live-action flick will star George Clooney, and Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird have penned the script. While details of the movie are remaining tightly under wraps, both Bird and Lindelof have posted clues about the movie on Twitter, including black and white photos of Walt Disney himself.
Disney officials wouldn’t comment on whether any scenes would be filmed at Disneyland.

Disney Channel to Celebrate Black History Month With ‘Doc McStuffins’ Interstitials

To celebrate Black History Month in February, The Disney Channel will air a group of interstitials dubbed We are Doc McStuffins. These segments are short spin-offs of the wildly popular Doc McStuffins television show, which features a young African American female who sets up a clinic for stuffed animals in her backyard after being inspired by her physician mother.
Following the same vein, We Are Doc McStuffins will feature real-life female African American doctors including Dr. Myiesha Taylor, Dr. Aletha Maybank and Dr. Naeemah Ghafur.

Disney Shuts Down ‘Epic Mickey’ Studio Junction Point

Junction Point, the game developer behind Epic Mickey and the follow-up sequel, has been shut down by Disney.
In a statement released by the company, Disney said:
It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. Disney Casts Cory & Topanga’s Daughter for ‘Girl Meets World’

Disney has officially cast Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga’s (Danielle Fishel) daughter for their Boy Meets World spin-off Girl Meets World.
11 year old Rowan Blanchard, whose previous credits include Spy Kids: All Around the World in 4D and The Back-up Plan, beat out many hopefuls for the coveted role. Michael Jacobs, who’s producing the pilot episode, said:

Disney Postpones Re-Release of ‘Star Wars’ Prequel Trilogy in 3D

Now that the future Star Wars franchise has J.J. Abrams at the helm, both Disney and Lucasfilm have decided to postpone the 3D re-release of the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
In a post on the official website, the company said:
Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans. We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.

Disney XD to Debut Second Season of ‘Lab Rats’

Following the success of the first season, Disney XD has renewed the top-rated comedy series Lab Rats for a second season.
The second season will follow Leo and his super-human siblings as they continue to struggle with every day teenage life while embarking on top-secret missions with incredible stakes. The new season will also feature a guest appearance by Madison Pettis (Jake and The Never Land Pirates.)
