Disneyland Cast Member Russell Fenton Earns Fourth-Highest U.S. Armed Forces Medal

Returning to work after a 10-month deployment in Afghanistan, Disneyland Resort employee and U.S. Army 1st Lt. Russell Fenton earned the U.S. Armed Forces Bronze Star Medal.
Fenton manages construction projects for Disneyland Resort and the U.S. Army while deployed. Fenton received the Bronze Star for overseeing one of the largest construction projects in Afghanistan.
While he has returned to work at the Disneyland Resort, Fenton says the support from Disney and other cast members was overwhelming. Says Fenton:

Rider Strong from ‘Boy Meets World’ Not Involved with Spin-Off

While Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel have signed on for the Boy Meets World spin-off to reprise their roles as lovable couple Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, Rider Strong (who played Cory’s best friend, Shawn Hunter) will not be returning.

Hallmark Adds ‘Shake It Up’ to Text Bands Line

Hallmark has expanded their licensed Text Bands line to feature the popular Disney Channel show Shake It Up!, which stars Bella Thorne and Zendaya Coleman.
Hallmark Text Bands allows friends to share messages with each other by shaking hands or bumping fists. Shake It Up! star Bella Thorne was so excited about the new Text Bands that she gave them away as party favors to friends that attended her Quinceanara. Disney Janitors Protest Firing of Nearly 70 Employees

On Tuesday, United Service Workers West lined up outside Walt Disney Studios protesting the recent firing of 68 employees. The workers also voted to authorize a strike if Disney failed to rehire the laid off employees.
Gabriel Gonzalez, a former Disney janitor who worked with the company for 25 years, said:
Walt Disney Studios is a place where movie magic is created to bring families closer together. Firing all of us without helping us secure a place in the new company is wrong. We will not be silent.

Celebrate the Holidays at The Walt Disney Family Museum

This winter, The Walt Disney Family Museum wants you to celebrate the holidays and Walt’s birthday with a number of special exhibitions, screenings and other events that take place throughout the month of December.
The special exhibition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs continues through April 14, 2013 and features over 200 works of art depicting conceptual drawings, story sketches and more.

Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly Tapped to Rewrite Disney’s ‘Flight of the Navigator’

Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, the breakout duo behind Safety Not Guaranteed, are slated to rewrite the remake for Disney’s Flight of the Navigator.
The original 1986 film told the story of a boy who mysteriously vanishes, only to show up eight years later without having aged a day. The original picture starred Joey Cramer, Sarah Jessica Parker and Veronica Cartwright, while Paul Reubens was the voice of the UFO’s pilot.

Cate Blanchett in Talks to Join Disney’s Live Action ‘Cinderella’

Disney’s live-action remake of Cinderella has been under development since 2010, and now rumors are circulating that Cate Blanchett is in talks to be the first cast member to sign onto the project.
Blanchett is rumored to play the role of Cinderella’s evil stepmother, in a re-telling that ex music video director Mark Romanek is slated to direct. He’ll be working from a screenplay directed by Chris Weitz, who took inspiration from Aline Brosh McKenna’s initial pitch to the media giant.

New Fantasyland Pins to Be Released at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

Several limited edition pins have been created to celebrate the opening of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom park. These exclusive pins will be available at Disney’s Coronado Spring Resort in Room J at the Convention Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m on December 6. During the release party, guests will be able to trade pins or Vinylmation as well.

Disney Releases Details About Epcot’s Flower & Garden Festival

Walt Disney World has released details about the upcoming Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, which will debut with new topiaries and other attractions based on Phineas and Ferb, Monsters University, Cars 2, Oz: The Great and Powerful and more.
The festival will also add special food kiosks in World Showcase while The Village People have been added to their Flower Power concert series for the first time in the festival’s 20 year history.
