Walt Disney Co.’s ABC Network Wants to Shut Down Dish’s Autohop

Sources have announced that Disney-owned ABC Network will attempt to shut down Dish Network Corp.’s ad-skipping Autohop feature.
ABC seeks a preliminary injunction from U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain, despite the fact that another judge dismissed a similar claim from another broadcaster two weeks ago. The controversy surrounding Dish’s Autohop feature, which allows viewers to automatically skip advertisements during recorded shows instead of manually fast-forwarding, has many broadcasters claiming it “threatens their very survival.”
While a Dish spokesman declined to comment on the impending injunction from ABC, Dish said in court …

Downtown Disney Area Hotels Offering Special Rates for December

This winter, Downtown Disney area hotels near The Walt Disney World Resort are offering special rates for guests. This is the perfect opportunity to experience Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland, which opens December 6.
The hotels are located outside the park, but offer complimentary shuttle service to each of the four theme parks and two water parks. Additionally, guests will receive a Downtown Disney deals booklet featuring discounts and special offers on Downtown Disney dining, shopping and entertainment options.

Golden Disney Christmas Tree On Sale for $4.2 Million

The Ginza Tanaka jewelry store, located in downtown Tokyo, is selling a real gold Christmas tree adorned with 50 Disney characters, golden chains and a tri-circle Mickey head tree topper. The 8-foot tree was comprised of 88 pounds of gold and is selling for 350 million yen, equivalent to around $4.2 million dollars.
The jewelry store collaborated with Walt Disney Japan to design the impressive tree, which commemorates the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney. Ten people labored over the tree for 2 months, which included the laborious work of hand-cutting and …

Disney Legend Mel Shaw Passes Away at 97

Dubbed a “Disney Legend” in 2004, visual animator, story man and development artist Mel Shaw passed away at 97.
Personally recruited by Walt Disney himself, Shaw contributed to several early classic Disney films including Fantasia, Bambi and The Wind in the Willows. His career with Disney was put on hold during the second World War, where he served as a filmmaker and cartoonist. After the war, he returned to work for Disney offering invaluable knowledge and expertise during the making of The Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, The Great Mouse Detective, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.

Disney Fantasy Gets Decked Out in Holiday Decor

This year will mark the first holiday season for the Disney Fantasy, and guests can expect to enjoy a bit of holiday magic while aboard – including a 20 foot Christmas tree in the ship’s Atrium lobby.

ABC Family Starts Production on New Comedy Pilot ‘Phys Ed’
