Welcome to our weekly news roundup! Before jumping in to this week’s news we’d like to wish all the dads out there a Happy Father’s Day!
Last week was a tragic week for Orlando and Walt Disney World. Following the mass shooting last weekend at Pulse nightclub, Disney was rocked by another tragedy on Wednesday when a two-year-old was killed by an alligator at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Walt Disney World Resort Erecting “Temporary Barriers” Along Beach Shorelines

In the wake of the deadly alligator attack at Disney’ Grand Floridian earlier this week, Disney is taking steps to make the resort beaches safer.
According to several online report Disney contractors were spotted erecting temporary fences at the shoreline at both the Grand Floridian and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
Signs warning “Danger! Alligators and snakes in area. Stay away from the water. Do not feed the wildlife” are also going up along the shore.
Disney had signs at every beach in the resort stating “No swimming” but they didn’t mention the wildlife …

Reservations Available for the Holiday Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party at the Magic Kingdom

If you’re making plans to visit the Walt Disney World Resort this holiday season you can now book a reservation for the Holiday Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party.
The party includes a reserved viewing location on Main Street U.S.A. for Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade and a private dessert party at Tomorrowland Terrace.
There will also be a reserved viewing area for Holiday Wishes: Celebrate the Spirit of the Season fireworks.
Desserts at the party will include cupcakes and other festive desserts including ice cream, chocolate mousse, seasonal fruits and cheeses, and more.

Shanghai Disney Resort Celebrates Grand Opening

After years of anticipation, it’s official – Shanghai Disney Resort is open!
Today marked the official grand opening of the first Disney resort in Mainland China – and the sixth Disney resort worldwide.

Walt Disney Animation Studios Releases Teaser Trailer for ‘Moana’

A teaser trailer has been released for newest animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Earlier this week fans had the chance to check out a quick teaser for Moana starring Dwayne Johnson as demigod Maui and newcomer Auli’i Cravalho as Moana.
The film tells the story of Moana, a teen on a quest to become a wayfinder and save her people. She meets the demigod Maui and together they sail the ocean encountering monsters and adventures along the way.

Toddler Attacked by Alligator at Disney’s Grand Floridian Beach

A two-year-old Nebraska boy is presumed dead after being dragged into the Seven Seas Lagoon at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Tuesday night.
The boy was reportedly playing in the water when the alligator – thought to be between 4 and 7 feet long – snatched him, dragging him into the lagoon.
According to officials, the boy’s parents entered the water and tried to wrestle the boy away from the gator.
Around 12:30 p.m. ET today officials said the gator attack was not survivable and the rescue mission was now a “recovery” …

The Walt Disney Company Donates $1 Million to OneOrlando Fund in Wake of Mass Shooting

The Walt Disney Company announced that it has made a $1 million cash commitment to the OneOrlando Fund in the wake of the mass shooting that took place in Orlando last weekend.
The fund was set up by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dryer to assist those who were affected by the shooting at the Pulse nightclub.
Eligible donations from Disney employees will be matched “dollar for dollar” by the Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.

Grand Opening of Shanghai Disney Resort to be Broadcast on Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD on June 16

The grand opening of Shanghai Disneyland will be celebrated with a television special airing June 16 on Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD.
The television special, Grand Opening Celebration of Shanghai Disney Resort, airs at 8 p.m. ET on those three networks, and again on June 17 at 10 p.m. ET on Freeform.
Sofia Carson (Descendants) will serve as the telecast narrator.
The telecast will feature Disney CEO Bob Iger, nearly 3,000 guests, celebrities, and government officials at Storybook Castle – the heart of Shanghai Disneyland.

Disney Wonder to Receive Enhancements this Fall

Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wonder is set to be transformed this fall while in dry dock from September 9 through October 23 in Cadiz, Spain.
The refurbished ship will sail again on November 10 from Galveston, Texas until it travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico on January 20, 2017.
As part of the new enhancements the Marvel universe will come to life in the Marvel Super Hero Academy as part of the Disney Oceaneer Club.

Homecoming: Florida Kitchen and Shine Bar Coming Soon to Disney Springs

Disney Springs is set to add another unique dining experience to its lineup when Chef Art Smith’s Homecoming: Florida Kitchen and Shine Bar opens this summer.
The restaurant will feature the “farm-to-fork” cuisine that Chef Smith is known for and diners will enjoy comfort foods including Cheese-Laced Biscuits, Fried Chicken, and more.
Desserts will include Mockingbird Cake and Fruit Cobblers.
