Dumbo Adorns Stern of Disney Fantasy In Construction Milestone

Disney Cruise Line is gearing up for the debut of its newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, this spring, and construction on the brand new ship is nearing completion. Recently, the ship celebrated an important construction milestone when Dumbo was officially placed on the stern of the ship.
Each of Disney’s cruise ships have a character adorning the stern–Goofy on the Disney Magic, Donald on the Disney Wonder, and Sorcerer Mickey on the Disney Dream. The Fantasy will feature our favorite flying elephant Dumbo, along with his pal Timothy Q. Mouse.

Disney Classic ‘Bambi’ Among 2011 National Film Registry Selections

This week, it was announced that the classic 1942 Disney film Bambi was given the distinct honor of being selected for the 2011 National Film Registry. The Registry, which is part of the Library of Congress, preserves films that are deemed to be cultural, artistic and historical treasures. The selections were made by Librarian of Congress James H. Billington, who chose 25 films out of 2,228 selections nominated by the public with the help of film curators and members of the National Film Preservation Board.

El Capitan Theatre to Show ‘Beauty and the Beast’ in 3D January 13

Yesterday, sources announced that Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in 3D would be presented at the El Capitan Theatre from January 13 until February 2, 2012.
Kids will receive special RealD 3D glasses, and guests will be treated to a live appearance from Belle herself before each showing at the historic theatre.

Disney Awards $5,000 to Appalachian Bear Rescue

A $5,000 grant was given to the Appalachian Bear Rescue (ABR) from The Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) in order to help assist ABR in feeding the record number of bear cubs staying with the organization this year.
Thus far, ABR has admitted 33 black bear cubs because of a shortage of food supplies in the Smokies and surrounding areas, leading to more orphaned cubs in 2011 than in previous years.

‘Kingdom Hearts 3D’ to Debut Next Year

The official title of Square-Enix’s new game is Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance,] and sources say it is slated to drop in North America and Europe sometime next year.
Director Tetsuya Nomura says that the latest Kingdom Hearts game is “the opening chapter of the final conflict,” and stars Sora and Riku who enter the “Sleeping Worlds” in order to become Keyblade Masters at King Mickey’s request. In this game, the main characters will travel through multiple Disney-inspired locales, including one based on The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Two Men Arrested for Tokyo Disneyland Ticket Fraud

Sources say that two Chinese men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted fraud after trying to exchange illegally obtained admission tickets to Tokyo Disneyland on December 25.
One of the men arrested is a 24 year old student, and both men were caught trying to exchange approximately 10 Disneyland “e-tickets” at a ticket counter on Christmas morning. These online tickets retail for around 62,000 yen, and authorities say the tickets were illegally purchased using a man and woman’s credit cards that were reported stolen earlier this year.

Peter Pan Coming to ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates’ in February

In his first-ever appearance, Peter Pan will be coming to Jake and the Never Land Pirates in an exclusive primetime special airing on the Disney Channel February 13, 2012.
The special, dubbed Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Peter Pan Returns will feature six original songs and highlight Peter Pan’s return to Pirate Island, where he will ask Jake, Izzy, Cubby and Skully to help find his lost shadow. Adam Wylie will provide the voice for Peter Pan.

Disneyland’s Holiday Fireworks Show Canceled Temporarily

On Tuesday, Disneyland’s holiday fireworks show was canceled again, making this the fifth time in the past week the show has had to be canceled.
The holiday display “Believe in Holiday Magic” was first canceled Thursday, due to both weather issues and a technical difficulty. That very night, a Disney employee had to be transported to the local hospital due to a noise-related injury sustained due to the fireworks show, but was subsequently released after treatment.

Four Disney Wonder Sailings Dropped for 2012

Next December, four Disney Wonder cruises from Los Angeles to Mexico have been dropped, sources say.
The 2012 sailings that were planned for December 9, 16, 23 and 30 would have stopped at Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and other Mexican cities, but have now been canceled. Guests who had reserved these sailings will be offered spots on different Disney cruises instead.
