We’re less than three months away now from the D23 Expo, and information is starting to come in about all the exciting things in store. Recently, D23 announced some of the items that will be on display at the Expo’s Treasures of the Walt Disney Archive exhibit, which will feature a collection of items from Mary Poppins.

Guests heading to Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom will now find two of their favorite characters in a new place. This week brought the opening of Adventurers Outpost in the park, a new meet and greet location.
Adventurers Outpost, located on Discovery Island, will serve as Mickey and Minnie’s new home base at Animal Kingdom, replacing their old home at Camp Minnie-Mickey. The new location will feature mementos and photographs from the famous couple’s expeditions around the world, including photographs from such varied destinations as Nepal and the savannas of Africa.

After having the second highest-grossing opening weekend of all time, Disney and Marvel’s Iron Man 3 earned a new box office distinction this week, as it was announced that the film has now grossed over $1 billion in ticket sales internationally.
Disney announced the milestone on Friday, only three weeks after the film was first released overseas. As of Friday, Iron Man 3 had grossed $302 million domestically after 14 days in theaters and $699 million overseas.

This summer will bring the theatrical release of Disney’s Planes, a spin-off of Pixar’s Cars franchise by DisneyToon Studios. This week, a new sizzle reel for the film was released, giving us a better look at what to expect from the new film.
Planes will focus on Dusty, a small plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer, and his journey to make that dream come true. The film, which was originally planned for a direct-to-DVD release, will star comedian Dane Cook as the voice of Dusty.

Fans of Marvel’s smash hit The Avengers will soon be able to see S.H.I.E.L.D. in action once more, as it was announced this week that the new Marvel series Agents of SHIELD has been picked up to air on ABC this fall.
The new series will focus on the operations of Marvel’s SHIELD initiative, the secret intelligence organization that has appeared in countless Marvel titles and was a main focus of The Avengers. The show is executive produced by Avengers director Joss Whedon with Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell, and Jeph Loeb. …

Today was an important day for the Disney Princesses, as Merida, star of Disney/Pixar’s Brave, officially became the eleventh Disney Princess. The coronation took place during a ceremony held this morning at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
The ceremony was attended by all ten current Disney Princesses: Snow White, Aurora, Belle, Ariel, Cinderella, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Tiana, Mulan, and Rapunzel. Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas was also on hand to preside over the ceremony, and Merida was officially given the title of a Disney Princess by her mother, Queen Elinor.

This weekend brought the theatrical release of Iron Man 3 in the United States, and while it might not have beat out Marvel’s record-setting hit The Avengers at the box office, it got closer than any other film.
