Walt Disney Studios Officially Announces Live-Action ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Walt Disney Studios has officially announced the live-action Beauty and the Beast film.
The film will star Emma Watson (Harry Potter franchise) as Belle, Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) as Beast/The Prince, Luke Evans (The Hobbit) as Gaston, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, and Kevin Kline as Maurice.
This new live-action film will be a 3-D retelling of the classic Disney animated film and will also include some CG magic.
Academy Award winner Alan Menken will score the film. Menken won two Oscars in 1991 for his work on the animated film. The film …

Musical Adaptation of Disney’s ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ to Make Stage Debut This Fall

Fans of Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame have likely never seen the musical stage version before, unless they happened to be in Germany more than a decade ago.
That will all change this fall when the musical stage version of the animated classic makes its US debut at the La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, California.
The 1996 animated film was based on the Victor Hugo novel and hand an Oscar-nominated score by Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz.

Richard M. Sherman and Alan Menken Set to Perform Together at the D23: Expo

Disney Legends Richard M. Sherman and Alan Menken – two of the world’s most celebrated songwriters and composers – will take the stage at this year’s D23 Expo 2013 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Richard M. Sherman and Alan Menken: The Disney Songbook.

Is ‘Aladdin’ Coming to Broadway?

Last weekend, Disney fans at D23’s Destination D event at the Disneyland Hotel were treated to a one-of-a-kind concert by Disney Legend and composer Alan Menken. Included in the concert were several cut songs from Aladdin that were reinstated in the show’s stage production, and in introducing one of these songs, Menken made the announcement that the show is, in fact, coming to Broadway.

‘Newsies’ and ‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ Earn Seven Tony Awards

Last night, the Broadway community came together to honor some of this season’s greatest Broadway shows, performers, and creators at the 2012 Tony Awards. And while Clybourne Park and Once may have taken home the top honors of Best Play and Best Musical, respectively, the Disney shows Newsies and Peter and the Starcatcher did not come home empty-handed. Alan Menken and Glenn Slater Win Grammy for ‘Tangled’ Song ‘I See the Light’

Disney’s hit animated film Tangled was recognized at the 2012 Grammy Awards last night, when Alan Menken and Glenn Slater won the Grammy Award for “Best Song Written for Visual Media.” The award recognized their work on the Tangled song “I See the Light.”

Disney Announces ‘Frozen’ to be Released November 27, 2013

Stage Production of ‘Newsies’ Opens at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse

Fans of the 1992 film Newsies are finally getting what many have wished for years: the film has finally been brought to life on stage. Stage Musical Adaptation of ‘Aladdin’ Opens at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre

A few months ago, we let you know about a new stage musical adaptation of Aladdin coming to Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, and we’re happy to report that its opening night is now here.
